I tried other user name instead of 'root', but get connection error. Does user have to be 'root' to create a connection? If 'root' is not required, then what access privilege should the user have?

It doesn't matter what password I choose. I don't understand why is it asking for password in the first place, and the chosen password does not need to be confirmed.
